22 September 2005 - Get Involved in Ban
Bullying at Work Day
Navigation

Continuing their campaign to raise awareness of bullying in the
workplace, the Andrea Adams Trust are asking businesses and organisations to
help by getting involved on this year's National Ban Bullying at Work Day,
on Monday 7 November.
The campaign is endorsed by the Government and backed by many
organisations such as the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
Andrea Adams was the first to recognise and deal with the
problems associated with bullying the the workplace and following her death in
1995, the Andrea Adams Trust was set up to continue her quest for the
eradication of bullying in the workplace.
Studies and research into bullying in the workplace have shown
results as follows:
-
Research of 5,300 public, private and voluntary sector employees
suggested the loss of 18.9 million working days each year through bullying in
the workplace.
-
Victims of workplace bullying take an average 7 extra days off
each year than those not bullied.
-
The report also found that in 75 per cent of cases a manager was
identified as the bully.
-
1 in 5 and 1 in 2 people are bullied at work.
-
Cost to individual companies is around 10% of annual profits.
