9 September 2005 - Launch of Redesigned Workers Awareness Webpage

Navigation

A new re-designed Health and Safety Webpage for Workers Health and Safety Awareness will be formally launched by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath, during a special event at the TUC Congress on 13 September 2005.   The launch will celebrate the partnership between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Health and Safety Commission (HSC) and Trade Unions.

The partnership and subsequent re-designed Workers Webpage aim is to provide extensive information for responsibilities of employees, including agency workers, on health and safety roles within the workplace.

Lord Hunt said:

"The HSE recognises the importance of involving workers in successful health and safety risk management.  I am delighted to launch these new WebPages, developed in cooperation with the TUC, which are a rich source of information on health and safety for workers."

The Worker Involvement Programme will also be highlighted at Congress by Lord Hunt.   Emphasis will be placed on persuading employers of the importance of involving staff in the decisions about health and safety risks and how they should be managed, contributing to the HSC's Strategy for Workplace Safety to 2010 and beyond.

The new Webpage will include information and advice on such as the following:

  • A did you know section.

  • Your responsibilities as a worker, including agency workers, safety representative, employer, trade association or trade union official.

  • Links and information for Safety Representatives.

  • Worker involvement and consultation.

  • Information on the Government funded Workers Safety Adviser Challenge Fund.

Lord Hunt commented further on the partnership and said:

"Both the workers' webpages and the guidance on sickness absence are evidence of the strong relationship that exists between the HSE and trade unions.

"The Commission and the Executive value highly the work of safety representatives and are committed to our partnership with the trade unions, who share our belief in health and safety as the cornerstone of a civilised society."
