7 September 2005 - Work at Height Advice
for Painters and Decorators
Navigation

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Dulux Decorator
Centres, working together, are promoting work at height practices advice to
painters and decorators within nominated Dulux Decorator Centres across the UK,
throughout the month of September.
HSE Inspectors will be on hand at the nominated Dulux Decorator
Centres to discuss the risks of working at height within the painting and
decorating industry with advice such as the following:
-
The risks of working at height.
-
Complying with the new Working at Height regulations.
-
Suitable work at height equipment.
-
Best practice.
The aim of the initiative is to highlight the lack of reduction
in the number of falls from height amongst small and medium-sized painting and
decorating businesses.
Awareness of the risks from working at height within the
construction industry is improving. However, latest HSE statistics
show that falls from height of painters and decorators within small and
medium-sized businesses remains high.
The following figures show serious falls from height incidents
since 2001:

a result of falling from a height. 89 of which were falls over 2 meters.
-

a result of falling from a height. 103 of the falls were from a low
height, under 2 meters.
-

a result of falling from height. 6 of the falls were fatal.
