The Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) and the Heating and
Ventilating Contractors' (HVCA) have signed a commitment to maximise joint
working on health and safety.
The ECA and HVCA will liaise on health and safety matters in a
bid to enhance and further improve upon their site safety with even greater
efficiency.
Some of the agreed areas the two associations intend to work
closely on are as follows:
-
The collecting of accident statistics in order to identify
national trends.
-
The producing of written representations on key issues to the
Health and Safety Executive and other bodies.
-
Developing assessment schemes for member companies.
-
Providing technical support for assessment in connection with
the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme and
Engineering Services SKILLcard.
ECA director David Pollock, speaking at the signing of the joint
venture said:
“Health and safety is of the utmost importance to members of
both the ECA and the HVCA. Both associations have a reputation for excellence in
this area, and we share many common issues.
“We aim, through such co-operation, to maximise our effectiveness and provide
opportunities for members to increase their business efficiency. We expect all
members of both associations to benefit from this initiative.”
HVCA director Robert Higgs commented:
"The joint commitment underlined the increasing priority
being given to health and safety throughout the construction industry.
"We owe it to everyone engaged in the construction process to minimize on-site
deaths and injuries, and to ensure the well-being of the workforce as a whole."
The joint commitment is already under development with the
staging of a major national conference on health and safety. This event is due
to take place during 2006.
