22 November 2005 - HSE Funded Database Aiming to Reduce RSI

Navigation

A new free Health and Safety Executive (HSE) funded database of court judgements in repetitive strain injury (RSI) cases is available to users who register, with the aim of reducing work related upper limb disorder (WRULD), or RSI as it is more commonly known.

The database contains information on important Court Judgements of RSI cases and will be of benefit to people with RSI and professional bodies such as the following:

  • All those with an interest in work related RSI.
  • Employers.
  • Trade Unions.
  • Occupational Health Professionals.
  • Lawyers.
  • Expert witnesses in medicine and ergonomics.
  • Insurers.

The database contains information such as the following:

  • Provides details of judgements including factors that Courts considered important in reaching their decisions.
  • The degree of care exercised by employers.
  • Contains the amount of damages awarded to claimants.

John Price, HSE MSD Programme Manager said:

"HSE is supporting this work as it can use this information to help write guidance, which can be interpreted correctly and consistently by employers, employees and the courts.

"This database is one of several tools that the HSE can use to help evaluate the effectiveness of regulations and guidance."
