21 July 2005 - Welcome News for NDDP as
Service Receives Extension
Navigation

A welcome announcement yesterday (Wednesday), from Margaret
Hodge, Minister for Employment and Welfare Reform, stated that an extension of
one year had been granted to the New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP).
This means the NDDP can now continue with the service they have been providing
for the disabled and people with health difficulties for a further year.
The NDDP was due to end on 31 March 2006, but this welcome
extension allows them to continue with their successful work of matching and
placing disabled and people with health difficulties back into the workforce
until 31 March 2007.
Since July 2001, the NDDP, working with employers and supporting
clients for the first 6 months, have secured more than 62,000 positions for
their clients.
Margaret Hodge commented by saying:
"I am delighted to be able to give reassurance to people on
incapacity-related benefits that the help provided by this successful programme
will continue to be available.
"This extension will give us time to take considered
decisions about the help we need to provide disabled people in order to support
them to stay in their jobs or return to work elsewhere."
