19 July 2005 - Disciplinary Action Against
Health and Safety Representative in Fire Service
Navigation

Disciplinary action is being taken by the management of Cheshire
Fire Service against a health and safety representative who attended a training
day safety exercise and raised concerns over risk assessment forms and operating
procedures.
The one day training safety exercise was to familiarise
fire-fighters with new anti-terrorist decontamination equipment.
The management hold the view that the health and safety
representative concerned failed to follow reasonable management instruction and
have taken action by commencing disciplinary procedures.
A Fire Service Spokesman commented:
"The disciplinary action was in accordance
with procedures agreed with the FBU."
A ballot for industrial action will be sought from Fire Brigade
Union (FBU) members.
The FBU stated that "management harassed their health and safety
representative."
